17/09/11

less children came through the trail on this event,
and because of possibility of rain,
we decided not to bring out the two extra fans,
and resulted in no movement with the tubes, they were just sitting on the ground.
but with the few kids that came through,
they were quite happy playing with the tubes, throwing them up in the air and running through them.
but they told us that when they first saw them they thought it could hold their weight...
and wanted to treat it like a bouncy castle,
only to find out after hugging it or trying to sit on it that it could not hold their weight.
One of the kids told us that more pressure within the tubes would have increased the fun of the tubes.

It started raining not long after the event started,
and people were no longer interested in engaging with it.
since the tubes were just lying on the ground,
and with strong winds blowing it in the way of pedestrians,
it was being kicked away by people walking through the fan trail.

The tubes also got really muddy after the event and require cleaning.

First Event.
was overall quite successful.
the members of public happily took photos with the tubes and happily experienced the spaces created by the tubes.
Although some were disappointed that they couldn't go in the container but they were quite happy having their backs against the fabric in front of the fan and took pictures.
We had 2 more fans by the side to create more movement with the tubes.

fan box

yeap, i do realize it's bigger than it should be haha.
it's because I used the whole piece of wood as a measurement

one fan + funnel

basically the funnel is the sock we initially talked about.
the nylon wraps around fan box, enclosing a cavity of air that is focused into
the standard 15cm diameter holes.

so in order to make this work, we need to do two components for the tubes,
the 15cm diameter reduction tube and the original sized bigger tube as shown below.

WIIND

What makes our aviation windsocks different? Two major things make a windsock, its material and its construction. We start off with a premium nylon fabric that is made right here in theUSA to our exacting standards. Nylon offers unparalleled windsock durability to the elements and will not become rigid in cold weather, keeping our windsocks extremely responsive in even the slightest of wind. From there it gets urethane coated and UV protected, giving the windsock superior fade resistance and color retention. The material is subjected to a variety of tests by an independent lab to verify its structural integrity and UV resistance. This superior material is then cut and sewn right here in our own facility. Our reinforced double stitched hems and heavy duty brass grommets, assures our windsocks long life reliability.

EXPLOSION VS INFESTATION PROCESS

Can our blobs follow these processes, an iteration of a virus infestation or volcanic eruption molded by our blow up spaces?

WHAT THIS SHITS ABOUT

We interrogate the concept of 'Explosion' by mimicking the gradual suspense involved in an explosive act. We have grasped at the idea of 'infestation' through the notion of a creature that emerges from the ground, harassing the container in an attempt to consume it.

The folly, formed from clusters of transparent piping contorted around the container and bound together with clamps, stretches beyond the container in attempt to engulf the audience. Chaotic at glance it is structured through the use of a simple scaffolding grid.

The event is formed from large lengths of plastic bags, these emerge from the containers opening and spread out into Myers park with the force of a generated wind, fanned from inside the container. This creates a movement that gives life to the colossal tubular forms. Lights and smoke spilling out from the opening enhances the atmosphere of an agitated monster emerging from within the container. The public will engage with the buoyant forms as it detours their direct route for active participation.
